A block is a collection of periods. Courses are attached to periods. A block is a convenient way to show that a course will take place in a particular group of periods. It is not necessary to define blocks.
Suggested use:
- Do not use this page until you have defined the Periods for this Day cycle completely.
- If you wish to add a new block you can do so using the Add Block form. To Delete an existing block, use the button to the right of the block's name.
- Define non-period blocks like Home Room, first (if attendance will be taken).
- Blocks that do not have names will show their period name instead, in parentheses.
- Note: if you do not see any blocks available in the pull down at the top of the chart, then no blocks have been defined for this year. To continue you will need to define the blocks first. You can do so using the form at the bottom of the page.
- To select the periods that constitute a particular block, select it from the pull-down menu, then click on the Select Block button at the top. The system will redisplay the day cycle table with a checkbox in each period. Select the appropriate periods in the day cycle table by clicking their checkboxes. Once you have the appropriate periods selected, click on the Save Changes button at the top. To remove a period from a block, select the block as before, then uncheck the period or periods you no longer wish to associate with that block and then click the Save Changes button to save the new settings.
- If a period is associated with more than one timetable block it will show the names of all blocks associated with it. This allows a given period to be associated with different courses if required.
- Select all the appropriate block periods that match a given block first, rather than doing them individually.
- If your school has more than one campus, and you want to edit the Blocks for a different campus than the one displayed, you can change your currently selected campus using the Change Campus command on the SDS menu to the left, then returning to this page.
- If you wish to change the settings for a different year, you can switch your currently selected year by using the Change Viewing Date command on the menu to any date inside the preferred year, then returning to this page.
In the Block Analysis section, Lessons refers to the number of lessons taught throughout the current school year. Hours refers to the number of hours this course will be taught, rounded down to the nearest hour and is therefore only an approximation.
