Overview
This page allows you to add a new “person” to the School Data System. If the new person is a student, proceed immediately to the Student section and complete the form up until the Create Student/Parents/Both button. If the new person is a teacher or staff member, skip all the way to the Teacher/Staff Person header and start there.
Caveat: to avoid duplicates, always search for the person in the SDS before creating a new record!
Fields, Boxes, and Buttons (oh my!)
Student section
- Initial student status: Please confirm with administration if you are uncertain of protocol. Typically, students should be marked as Applied until tuition/deposit is paid then they are moved to Accepted. Do not select Enrolled unless the student will be taking courses in the current semester as this will affect enrollment calculations.
- ESL: English second language.
- Is Day Student: non-boarding student.
Parents section – complete this section to connect a student with an individual or set of parents.
- Radio buttons: select only one of these options. The majority of students will use the first option; one or both parents with a relationship selected from the pull-down. Admissions leads are a special case, and the “Other adults” selection is used to create a parent pair for a student that already exists in the SDS.
- When the fields filled, click on “Create Student / Parents / Both!” to move on to the next step.
Teacher / Staff Person section – skip to this section if creating a school employee.
- Complete all fields and click on Create Staff Person button. “Is Teacher?” should be checked for all teaching staff.
