The input absence page allows you to add new absences, and view absences that have already been added.

The default listing of students is just day students, so if you want to see all student in the dropdown box, click the "All students" link at the top of the page. To revert back to just day students, click the "Day students only" link. At SMUS the default is "All students" and you can switch to "Day students only".

When viewing just day students, you can click on the "Print list of absent day students" link to output a printable view of absent day students.

To add a new absence, choose the student (or hold the CTRL key and select multiple), choose a reason they'll be away, and add a comment. Under these boxes, you can set the date and time that they will be leaving, and the date and time that they return.

If you choose an absence reason that has a date and time by default (2pm-4pm), and '''do not''' change the time from the defaults, the absence will set its time to 2pm - 4pm or whatever is specified in the reason. This is to speed up people who enter many absences per day, such as the health centre.

Under the absence input boxes, you will see a list of the absences already in the database. You can change which date this displays by choosing a date from the dropdown and clicking the "Go" button.

If the whole form does not fit on your screen, there are a few things you can do:

# Make your font smaller. If you're running Firefox, click View in your menu, and click the "Decrease text size" option.
# View the document full screen. If you're running Firefox, press the F11 key to go into fullscreen mode.
# Turn off help. Help takes up a lot of room, so click the "Help" link in the top bar to turn it off.
